The underpinning philosophy of the Smollan Group’s Centre for Learning and Development is that of Learning and Development for Performance.  We define competence holistically and in light of this, have developed a corporate curriculum comprising varied learning approaches, incorporating not only job specific, but also generic business and life skills requirements, which we have implemented nationally. We deliver short courses to on average 6000 employees nationally per year.

The Smollan Centre for Learning and Development also offers learnerships or structured learning programmes in Retail and Wholesale Processes, Sales and Marketing, Contact Centre Support, Generic Management and Business Administration. We are an accredited training provider (Wholesale and Retail SETA decision no. 216) and accordingly, the Centre employs stringent quality processes to ensure delivery of quality education and training, and complete compliance with legislative requirements.

In order to stay abreast of industry issues and professional best practice, the Centre ensures continual contact and involvement with various industry bodies such as The Retailer’s Association, Business Unit South Africa’s Social Policy Forum Sub-Committee for Education and Training and Wholesale and Retail Standards Generating Body (SGB). To this end, we actively work towards the development of standards and qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework relevant to the business sector in which we operate.
